Elaine Jackson Stack, a recently retired justice of the New York State Supreme Court, writes and argues both criminal and civil appeals. After more than 15 years’ service as one of the most respected members of the Long Island Judiciary, Judge Stack eagerly anticipates her return to private practice.

As appellate counsel, Judge Stack has successfully argued criminal, civil and family law cases at every level of the New York State court system as well as in the Federal Second Circuit Court of Appeals. She has been honored for her appellate advocacy with the Norman C. Lent Award, the highest honor of the Criminal Courts Bar Association.

Prior to her ascendancy to the bench, Judge Stack was an assistant district attorney in Nassau County serving in the Rackets Bureau as deputy chief and in several other trial bureaus. A graduate of St. John’s University Law School, she has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at both her alma mater and at Hofstra University School of Law. She is sought after as a speaker and lecturer.

Highly regarded by both bench and bar, she has been honored by the receipt of many awards, among them the naming of the Nassau County Bar Association Moot Court competition as the “Honorable Elaine Jackson Stack Moot Court;” the Gassman Award of the Nassau County Bar Association’s WE CARE Fund; the Neil T. Shayne Distinguished Service Award of the Jewish Lawyers Association; and Woman of the Year Award of the Court Officers Benevolent Association. She has twice been named to Special Commissions by the Chief Judge of the State of New York.
